Perlin
Beads captivate with shimmering colours and beautiful shapes. Birgit Laun uses them to make distinctive jewellery
A special material for special jewells
PERLIN is Berlin’s top address for one-off specimens of creative jewellery in a variety of shapes, colours and materials. There are bartered beads, stone beads, glass beads, silver beads, brass beads, findings and accessories. The motto here is “old beads in new patterns”: designer Birgit Laun works primarily with ancient trading beads, reworking them skilfully into unique items of jewellery. Stunning effects are obtained by combining them with gold, silver or brass beads.
In her shop in the Hackesche Höfe, the designer is happy to respond to customer requests: “I enjoy working with these special materials every time,” she says. Her unique creations can be worn for any occasion and make unusual gifts. The old beads are particularly fascinating with their wealth of colours and wonderful shapes.
